Answer: Non-profit organization for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse and stalking in Loudoun County.
Question: Do you have any LGBTQ+ board members? Include any information, if possible, about how they represent LGBTQ+ issues in your organization.
Answer: Not that I am aware of - no specific representation of queer issues to our organization.
Question: Do you supply any training materials to individuals in your organization, or outside of your organization? If so, what do those materials entail?
Answer: We require all staff and volunteers to complete a minimum of a 15 hour training, some of which is online through the Victims of Crime Training and Technical Assistance Center. One of the trainings is an hour-long module on serving LGBTQ+ populations.
Question: How do you make your organization a safe and affirming place for LGBTQ+ people to be?
Answer: Our mission is to serve all survivors in Loudoun County regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. We have an anti-discrimination office policy that specifically includes LGBTQ+ protections, and required staff training on how to serve LGBTQ+ survivors. Part of our strategic planning includes researching and developing a list of prospective community partners that are LGTBQ+ focused and to require staff training in order to make LAWS a safe space for both staff and clients. As a whole, LAWS strives to be inclusive, although we realize that being an LGBTQ+ ally is a long-term, ongoing process that requires learning, engaging, training, and improving ourselves to ensure that all members of the LGTBQ+ community feel safe in seeking our services, in addition to our staff members feeling safe regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.
Question: In your fundraising activities, do you solicit funds from non-affirming organizations? If so, which organizations?
Answer: No.
