DESCRIPTION

Moms Demand Action is a grassroots movement of Americans fighting for public safety measures that can protect people from gun violence. We pass stronger gun laws and work to close the loopholes that jeopardize the safety of our families. We also work in our own communities and with business leaders to encourage a culture of responsible gun ownership. We know that gun violence is preventable, and we’re committed to doing what it takes to keep families safe.

OUR REVIEW

As an early adopter of the Equality Allies program, Moms Demand Action demonstrates a commitment to the ideals of diversity, inclusion, and equality. With a thorough review of their organization, we found no history of discriminatory practices or exclusive reviews.

Industry Survey

Question: What type of non-profit organization do you represent? Briefly describe your mission.

Answer: Moms Demand Action is a grassroots movement of Americans fighting for public safety measures that can protect people from gun violence. We pass stronger gun laws and work to close the loopholes that jeopardize the safety of our families. We also work in our own communities and with business leaders to encourage a culture of responsible gun ownership. We know that gun violence is preventable, and we’re committed to doing what it takes to keep families safe.

Question: Do you have any LGBTQ+ board members? Include any information, if possible, about how they represent LGBTQ+ issues in your organization.

Answer: Yes. At least a third of our leadership are parents of LGBTQ+ youth.

Question: Do you supply any training materials to individuals in your organization, or outside of your organization? If so, what do those materials entail?

Answer: Yes. We have a program called Disarm Hate, which discusses the intersectionality of hate crimes and guns. It was started after the Pulse Nightclub massacre and focuses on protecting transgender persons, especially trans people of color.

Question: How do you make your organization a safe and affirming place for LGBTQ+ people to be?

Answer: At every meeting, we read a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion grounding statement. We talk about partnering with Equality Loudoun as much as possible because we have such overlap in the work we do.

Question: How can Equality Loudoun best support your organization?

Answer: Since most of the attack against trans children seems to be focused at the school board, partnering with us and Loudoun 4 All will strengthen all three of our organizations. If we are strategic about using our collective resources, I think we can counter the hate head on. I would love for you all to give presentations at our meetings as well. Please help us create a more safe and affirming space for LGBTQ+ people.

Question: How can your organization best support Equality Loudoun?

Answer: We will show up for you when you need us--all you need to do is ask. We're happy to share your events and functions. Please use us in whatever capacity you need us!

Question: In your fundraising activities, do you solicit funds from non-affirming organizations? If so, which organizations?

Answer: No. We receive funding directly from Everytown for Gun Safety (ET). We don't do our own fundraising. ET is very intentional from whom they receive funding.

Question: Are there other Non-Profit organizations that you recommend as allies?

Answer: Loudoun 4 All; LAWS
